Professor/Associate Professsor in Manufacturing Quality Management in Industry

The department delivers BSc, MSc and PhD Candidates and research in the field Civil and Manufacturing Engineering. Solutions for sustainable manufacturing industry is a core objective for the department. The department has at present 8 professors, 28 associate professors, 6 in other academic positions and 13 PhD candidates.
The Gjøvik-region, with nearly 70 000 inhabitants, is the technological and industrial cluster of “Innlandet” and one of the leading centers in Norway. Gjøvik is located 93 km north of Oslo Airport and 123 km from Oslo, the capital of Norway.
The candidate will be responsible for research and teaching on manufacturing engineering and will be a member of the manufacturing research group. The teaching activities will be on bachelor, master and PhD levels. We are seeking outstanding candidates, who has demonstrated competence and skill in both teaching and research in Manufacturing Quality Management in Industry 4.0, typically covering several of the following topics:
- Manufacturing Quality systems Design and Management (ISO standards, QFD, etc)
- The human factor in quality systems, Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Process monitoring and control
- Statistical Methods and Probability Concepts in Manufacturing (MSA, DoE, SPC etc.)
- Risk management methods (FMEA, Hazop, etc)
- Industry 4.0 / Cyber Physical Manufacturing Systems
- Maintenance planning for robust manufacturing (RCM, CBM etc.)
- Dynamic scheduling and planning
- Modelling, simulation and decision support for quality engineering
- Information Systems Strategy and management for manufacturing organisations
For the position, a doctorate degree in the field of manufacturing with focus area quality, process monitoring and similar relevant field is required. The applicant must document his/her pedagogical skills and qualifications in teaching and supervision of Master and PhD candidates. Furthermore, must the candidate demonstrate high quality research within the discipline, and submit a list of publications. Industrial experience and the ability to work in collaboration with industry is regarded to be important. The ability to write proposals and acquire external funding is beneficial. The evaluation of the candidate will be based on the documented material and personal interview.
Excellent language skills in English is a must.
The successful applicant for a professorship must be able to document his/her extensive disciplinary qualifications in important fields within the discipline. His/her individual work must document scientific expertise in one or more parts of the discipline, particularly the fields the professorship has a specific responsibility for. Weight will be placed on the ability to supervise and initiate research and development work.
Emphasis will be put on pedagogical skills in the recruitment process. The evaluation of the candidate will be based on documented pedagogical material, including pedagogical education/training, the presentation of academic work, experience from supervising masters-level students and doctoral candidates and teaching, as well as other pedagogical matters. The evaluation will consider both the quality and the scope.
Academic staff who are employed without having formal pedagogical qualifications in university level teaching and are unable to document equivalent qualifications, are required to successfully complete a recognized course that gives a pedagogical qualification in university level teaching within two years of taking the appointment. The university offers such courses.
The applicants that have been short-listed will be invited for interviews and a demonstration of their pedagogical ability, usually in the form of a trial lecture.
The professor is to be jointly responsible for disciplinary matters together with other academic staff at the department. The professor is required to participate in teaching activities in accordance with the relevant curriculum and assist in further developing the teaching programme, including continuing education. The professor is to supervise master students, research fellows and doctoral candidates in his/her discipline. The professor must agree to participate in administrative work.
The professor is obliged to follow the regulations that concern changes and developments within the discipline and/or the organizational changes concerning activities at NTNU.
It is assumed that newly employed staff in academic positions who do not already master a Scandinavian language are to obtain within three years knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language at an equivalent standard to level three in the Norwegian for Foreigners courses provided at the Department of Language and Literature. The University provides such courses.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants.

The position as professor is normally remunerated with a minimum gross salary from NOK 611 700 to NOK 1 211 300 per annum, depending on qualifications and work experience.
The position as associate professor is normally remunerated with a minimum gross salary from NOK 558 500 to NOK 860 500 per annum, depending on qualifications and work experience.
There will be a 2 % deduction to The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund from gross salary.
