York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us.

Significant investment in our campus and facilities, the development of forward-thinking new partnerships and an enhanced range of contemporary courses have helped make us the fastest growing University in the U.K. over the past two years.

Now we are building on that achievement, developing a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region.

We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset and investing in enabling this expertise to thrive.

As a Stonewall Top 100 employer and holder of the Social Enterprise Gold Mark for Responsible Business Practice, our strength lies in the supportive, inclusive network that exists within our team: renowned for our friendly, progressive environment, we will nurture your potential so that you can accomplish your ambitions.

All of this takes place at the heart of beautiful York, recently named by the Sunday Times as the best U.K. city to grow up in because of the quality of education, culture and community spirit that we form part of!

As part of our expansion, we are recruiting for a Lecturer in Fine Art and Photography (Moving Image, Installation, and Performance). We are looking for an exceptional individual with a practice-led background in visual art practice to join our team and work across the Fine Art and Photography programmes. The individual will have technical and conceptual expertise in the areas of fine art and photography.

In addition the following skills are required -

  • Moving image capture (using DSLR cameras and video cameras),
  • moving image/video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro,
  • specialist sound recording and editing using software such as Adobe Audition CC,
  • experience of installation/large-scale projection.

As part of this role, you will contribute to both the teaching of studio-based practice and contextual studies modules, encouraging the development of cross-disciplinary exchanges based on a range of multimedial and intermedial experiences of artistic production. The individual will inspire new creative strands within the curriculum by instigating a multimedial dialogue within existing fine art, visual art and contextual studies modules, thus contributing to an existing innovative curriculum which unfolds within the context of interdisciplinary and the wider evolving contemporary visual arts landscape. Candidates must have undertaken both practice based research and have experience of teaching moving image making, video installation and/or performance.

In addition to a competitive salary and the opportunity to work at our beautiful campus in the heart of York, YSJ employees enjoy access to a superb range of benefits including –

  • Generous annual leave entitlement (plus additional leave days during our Christmas closure period)
  • Pension scheme
  • Health cash plan
  • Training and development
  • Discounts at a wide range of high street brands and local companies, including shops, cinemas and gyms.

Please note that CVs will not be accepted in place of the application form.

We welcome all applicants, and particularly people from minority ethnic backgrounds as they are underrepresented within the university.

If you would like to shape the story of a 175 year old institution with a fantastic future, we would love to hear from you.

Closing date – 25/5/18 at midnight

Provisional interview date – 28/6/18

We value diversity and wish to promote equality at all levels
