This is a full time, 18 months fixed term post.

The Impact and Engagement Officer will play a crucial role in the implementation of Durham University Business School’s (DUBS) engagement and wider external impact strategy and activities.

Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager (Research) and working directly with the Deputy Dean Research (DDR), the Associate Dean for External Engagement (ADEE) and the University’s Research and Innovation Service (RIS), you will support the development and execution of the Business School’s research strategy and associated research activities, with a particular emphasis on the development of the School’s Impact Case Studies (ICS) for REF2021 (and beyond).

Liaising with academic colleagues throughout DUBS, you will provide administrative support as appropriate to ensure impact and engagement activities are enabled and publicised. You will be familiar with the REF definitions and requirements for external impact and you will be the main point of contact for external impact and engagement for the School – including liaison with industrial and other non-academic partners.

The post-holder will be required to develop specialist knowledge around impact and provide advice to academic staff on how to understand, assess and collect evidence of the external impact of their research and publications or other related outputs. It will also involve working with academic colleagues in identifying possibilities for non-academic dissemination, engagement, collaborations (academic and industrial) and impact, at all stages of research ideas or projects, and indicating where further sources of advice can be accessed.

The post-holder will be a self-starter with an excellent understanding of the relationship between research and impact in the wider community and will be an able and enthusiastic person who has a genuine interest in, and commitment to developing the overall engagement and external impact profile of the School. S/he will be able to work closely with the marketing team to provide information which can be used to promote DUBS’s research, as well as facilitating links which will provide opportunities for external impact development.

Interviews will take place week commencing 28th May 2018 or week commencing 4th June 2018.
