Intellectual Property Business Development Manager

The Research and Innovation Office facilitates high-quality academic research through leading the development of research strategy and policy, supports researchers to access funding and form new collaborations, oversees key strategic partnerships and supports management and commercialization of Intellectual Property developed at the University.
The Office is placed at the centre of the University, within the Executive Office and reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation through the Director of Research and Innovation. Members of the team are required to work collaboratively, demonstrate high levels of client focus along with the ability to innovate, work flexibly as a member of a small team, and in complex situations.
The Intellectual Property Business Development Manager will work within the Business Partnerships team, which supports all aspects of the university’s knowledge exploitation activity. The post-holder will work alongside the existing Cranfield Technology Transfer Manager in the management and commercialization of IP that is created at Cranfield University, and will work with the cohort of similar posts at the seven other Midlands Innovation universities (Aston, Birmingham, Keele, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham, Warwick) to accelerate the commercialization of innovations. The role is one of a collective cohort at each university within a new collaborative partnership for technology transfer – the Midlands Innovation Commercialisation Research Accelerator (MICRA).
You will be educated to degree level preferably in an engineering or science based discipline, and have experience of business development and in the management and commercialisation of Intellectual Property. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you will be comfortable in working with colleagues from all levels and have experience in deal making and negotiation.
