There is a temporary position available at the Department of International Business as PhD Candidate in Economics and Management for a period of 4 years. This is an educational position, which will provide promising research recruits the opportunity for professional development through studies towards a PhD. The position is connected to the PhD-program at the Faculty of Economics and Management and the faculty will be your employer.

The Department of International Business performs research and education within the subject areas of marketing, economy, management, language, business and innovation. The faculty's objective is to answer and affect the region's need for higher education within economic and administrative subjects, international business and entrepreneurship.

The PhD candidate will study the new platforms for service provision and the services/ regulation in the bank and finance sector linked to the PSD2 directive. De-regulation of the finance sector combined with a rapid introduction of new technologies opens this sector for new actors and challenge the business models of the traditional actors. It is expected that the candidate work closely together with partners from relevant industries. The main theme relates to new business models including untraditional partners, networks and alliances. Focus will be the transformative changes digitalization makes to the speed, scope and scale of financial value chains and the roles taking part. This PhD is located at the TEFT-lab at NTNU in Ålesund, which is a project sponsored by Sparebanken Møre and NTNU.


Employment will be activated in accordance to existing regulations of 31.01.06. Applicants must have a strong academic record from their previous studies, and must have a weighted average grade for the last two years of their master's or equivalent education (equivalent to 120 credits) of B or higher in terms of NTNU's grading scale. Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be admitted only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree. Fluent English skills are required.

Students who are completing their master studies spring 2018 are encouraged to apply with the most recent transcript of grades. Such candidates may be employed conditionally on successfully finishing their master with an average equal or higher than a B.

The position requires a MSc degree in Business and Administration, Industrial Economics and Technology Management, Economics or similar.

Documented experience with research or project work within digital economy, new business models, blockchain or related areas will be weighted in the selection process.

The theme of thesis will be aligned with the other research activities in the project and in the TEFT-lab. Cooperation skills and communication skills will be highly weighted.

Salary and Working Conditions

The PhD position is paid according to salary level 50 in the national salary scheme, minimum gross NOK 436 900,- per year, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.
