Director of Finance

THE CONSERVATOIRE FOR DANCE AND DRAMA AND THE NATIONAL CENTRE FOR CIRCUS ARTS

The Conservatoire and the National Centre are seeking a Director of Finance for a shared role that will lead the strategic financial development of both organisations.

About the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama

The Conservatoire is a higher education institution, a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. Through our member schools, we deliver world leading higher education and vocational training in the performing arts (dance, drama, circus arts and technical theatre).  As members of the Conservatoire, the schools, which remain separate legal entities, work together to uphold the highest standards in education and training, to collaborate artistically and to share resources, whilst retaining their distinctive identities, traditions and expertise.

About the National Centre for Circus Arts

The National Centre for Circus Arts, one of the Conservatoire’s six member schools, is a registered charity and one of the world’s leading providers of circus arts training. We provide emerging and professional circus artists, directors and choreographers access to vital space and support to learn, train, experiment, create and share ideas.

Our diverse range of work includes BA degree-level education in Circus Arts which is supported at either side by a structured training programme for under-18's and professional development opportunities for aspiring and established performers. Adults and young people can enjoy recreational classes or a varied and growing series of performances. We also run highly regarded workshops, away days and team building events for the corporate community as well as using our remarkable building for a variety of exclusive corporate events each year. We continue to develop our creation and production capabilities and are striving forward in both initiating and creating high quality work that can tour regionally and nationally. Our national role increasingly sees us supporting and mentoring circus artists and organisations across the country as we seek to develop and mature our remarkable art form.

The Role

The role will be split with two days each week at the Conservatoire’s Shared Services office [currently in Bloomsbury] and three days per week at the National Centre in Hoxton.

Candidates will be qualified accountants with experience of leading and managing a finance function at a senior level gained in a public sector or charity environment. Knowledge of the higher education sector is desirable, but not essential. Strategic, creative and pragmatic, the successful applicant will be an innovative thinker with excellent attention to detail, a strong financial background, good communication and presentational skills, and an ability to work with people at all levels. The postholder will demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate two small teams, while offering financial support throughout both organisations to increase financial literacy and capacity.
Working with two CEO’s, this is an opportunity to take a leading role in two intrinsically linked organisations giving a unique variety, challenge and impact in your work.
