Research Associate in Bio-based Composites
Based in the world leading research team of the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS) within the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bristol, this is an exciting opportunity to join a strong team developing materials and composite bio-based structures.
You will develop the manufacturing, characterisation and testing of composites and sandwich structures made from natural fibres, bio-based resins and foams. The bio-based composites will be also used to produce structural demonstrators related to automotive, design goods and airframe interiors. You will develop and produce bio-based foams and cores for the structural demonstrators. The manufacturing of the structural demonstrators will be performed using moulding-based techniques, for which you will design the tooling. You will also be involved in developing design guidelines from first principle composites and sandwich panel theories. This work is of particular relevance, but not limited to, natural fibre thermoset and thermoplastic composites, and foam/cellular materials for sandwich structures.
You will have at least a first degree in Engineering, and preferably a PhD in Engineering/Materials Science (or closely related discipline) and have good experience of manufacturing and testing composite materials and developing the corresponding testing rigs.
This post is offered on an open-ended basis (full-time) with funding secured for 2 years.
It is anticipated that interviews will take place in early May 2018.
Informal enquiries can be made to: Professor Fabrizio Scarpa (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Dr Ian Farrow (Ian.Farrow@bristol.ac.uk).
