The Department is well regarded for high quality teaching and research. Located within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the Centre for Applied Statistics provides mathematical and statistical advice to external clients and other disciplines within the university. It promotes national and international collaboration and supports the discipline of Statistics within the University and the wider statistical community. In addition to a broad based undergraduate programme in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, the Department contributes to the teaching of Applied Statistics for the Data Science Major and the Master of Data Science in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
The appointee will promote research and teaching in Statistics and Data Science at UWA, contributing to the University’s research priorities. Playing a leading role in teaching and curriculum design, the successful candidate will demonstrate sound leadership skills combined with a confident, enthusiastic and collaborative approach. It is expected that, after a settling in period, the appointee will become Director of the UWA Centre for Applied Statistics.
Displaying a passion for scholarship, combined with a capacity for academic leadership, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to engage with client departments and industry. The ability to actively build strong working relationships with government and industry is also a requirement.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:
- A PhD in Statistics or a relevant discipline
- Research expertise in Statistics or Data Science
- Teaching expertise in Statistics and Data Science
- Successful publication record as evidenced by international refereed publications
- A track record of effective teaching and course development
