About the opportunity
The School of Economics within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is a rapidly growing, dynamic and evolving school with a mission to expand and develop the discipline across the Faculty and University. The school is one of the primary centres for economics in Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region, located in one of the most exciting cities in the world that is the business and policy hub of Australia.
To further strengthen our research portfolio and provide additional academic leadership, the school wishes to appoint a Professor of Econometrics. The successful applicant will have an active and visible program of research in any field of econometrics. They will join a young, strong and growing research group in econometrics at the school, with the opportunity to engage more broadly within the research community in the city and nationally.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of publication in the leading journals and an international reputation for excellence in research, which will enhance the position of the School in Econometrics internationally and nationally. The appointed candidate must be able to collaborate closely with colleagues in research and teaching, and be willing to provide leadership to a growing and vibrant group of young econometricians covering a wide research spectrum within the discipline. As econometrics is an area of major teaching concentration, the successful candidate will be able to influence and shape the teaching program, both undergraduate and postgraduate.
The principal duties of the person appointed are to:
- pursue research in Econometrics, to disseminate research results at seminars/workshops and conferences, and to produce high quality publications
- undertake teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate level
- provide academic leadership within the School in Econometrics
- supervise research of students working in Econometrics and related areas
- seek external research funding to support and promote research activity
- undertake leadership and administrative responsibilities commensurate with a senior academic appointment
Term and remuneration
The successful applicant will be offered a full-time continuing position, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees. A competitive remuneration package (including up to 17% employer’s contribution to pension) will be negotiated.
