La Trobe Asia was established in 2014 to strengthen and deepen La Trobe University’s academic engagement with Asia using a 'whole of university' approach to make Asia a key part of our teaching, research and external engagement. The Executive Director has chief carriage of that mission and leads the La Trobe Asia team to work collaboratively with academic and professional staff across the University to improve all aspects of the University’s academic activity in relation to the region, and to capitalize on the opportunities presented by Asia's rise and the ways in which Asia is changing both to Australia and the world.
About the role
In this role you will be responsible for driving the University’s Asia strategy, and to manage the work of La Trobe Asia and its related entities.
Engagement with Asia entails all aspects of university life and work to date has focused on: increasing research collaboration on regional topics and with Asia-based researchers; enhancing the student experience and employability through greater student exposure to the region; and external outreach through strategic interventions in public debate. The Executive Director should be an established senior academic with an international reputation for Asia-focused scholarship.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent communicator, be able to develop durable working relationships with academic and professional staff across the university and with external stakeholders and have a clear strategic vision for realizing La Trobe Asia’s ambitious mandate. There is no specific scholarly discipline sought after although we are particularly keen to attract scholars with expertise in areas of direct relevance to issues of public debate in Asia.
