The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) is a national collaborative research infrastructure, supported by the Australian Government to undertake systematic observing of Australia’s marine environment.  These observations produce data streams that are accessible via the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) by researchers, governments and industry in Australia and internationally.

The AODN Director provides advice to the IMOS Director and strategic leadership to the AODN team of around 18 marine scientists and information systems experts.  Key responsibilities include managing relationships with IMOS facilities and collaborating institutions and building sustainable data links to international oceanographic programs and information communities. 

The AODN Director will have: postgraduate qualifications and expertise in marine science and/or information management; previous success in managing complex and highly collaborative projects; high level representation skills; and superior communication and negotiation skills.  Also critical will be a detailed knowledge of distributed data systems, metadata standards and spatial/geographic information systems together with a comprehensive understanding of issues relating to information and technology management relevant to managing heterogeneous scientific data and resources in long term and online environments.
