The ANU College of Science (CoS) comprises: the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Research School of Biology, the Research School of Chemistry, the Research School of Earth Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Mathematical Sciences Institute, the Research School of Physics and Engineering, and the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science. Staff and students within the ANU College of Science conduct research and deliver a research-led education program that encompasses the entire breadth of the sciences, supported by extensive international networks and by world-class facilities. The College has a strong tradition of research excellence that has fostered distinguished Nobel Laureate and Kyoto Prize winners and trained scientific leaders in disciplines in which the ANU is consistently ranked in the top twenty in the world.
The Research School of Chemistry was founded in 1967. Last year the School reached its 50th anniversary celebrating research excellence, remarkable international and industry collaborations, state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment and facilities and progressive undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, achieved by the contribution of all staff members. The School currently divides its research into four themes; Biological chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Organic chemistry and Physical & Theoretical chemistry, and hosts 47 academic and 34 professional staff members and more than 800 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be located within the Synthetic Polymer Chemistry Group. The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to one of the following research projects led by Dr Luke Connal.
Project 1. Bio-inspired catalyst design
Project 2. 3D-printing functional polymers
Project 1 is concerned with the design and experimental implementation of enzyme inspired catalysts for advanced industrial applications, whilst project 2 is focussed on the development of new polymer inks for 3D printing that can lead to advanced properties, such as shape and colour changing.
The successful candidates will have made progress towards, or completed a PhD in Polymer/Organic Chemistry or another related discipline. Demonstrated research experience with a track record of independent research is essential.
The Research School of Chemistry and ANU College of Science are committed to improving the gender balance amongst staff and students in the field of Science, Technology and Engineering and Mathematics. The School and College are committed to taking proactive action towards this goal by supporting and providing mentoring to early career female academics through their career goals.
