This position will be based within the Bacic Lab at the Centre for AgriBioscience (AgriBio), which is a $280M state of the art facility opened in 2013 at the La Trobe University Bundoora campus. AgriBio is a joint initiative of the Government of Victoria, through the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and La Trobe University. AgriBio is one of Australia’s premier biosciences facilities, with a key emphasis on supporting and protecting Victoria’s A$11.6 billion agricultural sector by focussing on cutting-edge research to improve productivity; fight disease; and reduce environmental impact.
About the positions
The appointee will be part of the newly established La Trobe Institute for Agriculture & Food (LIAF) team, specifically to contribute to supporting the research of the Institute’s major research themes: Golden Soil, Fit for Purpose Seeds, and Quality Dietary Fibre. You will perform and develop analytical procedures on samples from biological systems (eg. plants, algae and fungi), including sample preparation and subsequent separation/identification/quantification of carbohydrates by either HPLC, HPAEC-PAD (Dionex) and/or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
Skills and Experience
- Completion of a Bachelor degree in Science or Applied Sciences and/or relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Well developed analytical and technical problem solving capability.
- Experience with (bio)chemical analyses and analytical instrumentation (eg. HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, etc).
- Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of scientific research equipment and facilities, with respect to operations, maintenance and problem solving.
