The University of Newcastle is seeking two Deputy Directors to support the Director, People and Workforce Strategy in enhancing the capability of Human Resource Services and the HR leadership provided to the organisation, ensuring that the HR team is a trusted source of advice and assistance.

Human ResourceServices

Human Resource Services provides strategic, procedural, legislative and administrative support and advice covering: workforce strategy and transformation, employee relations, HR business partnering, workplace health and safety, remuneration and benefits, HR support services, recruitment and HR information systems.

The Roles

These are exciting new senior leadership opportunities for highly experienced HR professionals with deep operational, relationship building and staff and change management capabilities, who can support the Director in leading both the Unit and the function more broadly across the University. The Deputy Directors will manage the daily operations of the Division, ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources and delivery of work, providing leadership and guidance to their teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. 

Both roles require an experienced HR professional, with a proven track record in leading and executing integrated strategy in a large and complex organisation. The successful candidates will have exceptional influencing and relationship-building skills and the capacity to promote collegiality and a culture that embraces change.

The Deputy Director, People and Systems will provide leadership and management for health and safety, payroll, superannuation and remuneration, HR client services and HR IT systems and reporting functions. The successful candidate will be an expert in payroll and superannuation, have a record of significant achievement in improving HR systems and processes and demonstrate a commitment to outstanding client service and process improvement.

The Deputy Director, People and Culture will support to the Director in the development and execution of HR strategy and employee relations functions. The role will be responsible for workforce strategy and transformation, employee relations, business partnering and equity and diversity. The successful candidate will have a record of achievement in strategic HR, a depth of experience in employee relations in a large and complex organisation, excellent skills in conflict resolution, an appreciation of equity and diversity, and a demonstrated understanding of business intelligence systems that inform workforce planning and performance. Experience in project management would be advantageous.

The roles are fixed term positions for five years.
