About the role

  • $73,597K-$98,127K plus 9.5% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term 6/12months
  • Full-time / Part-time options available

The Research Associate will be based in the Faculty of Built Environment, and work on an exciting research project into collaborative robots. The project is a research collaboration between academia and industry. The appointee will be expected to have the capability to work with industrial and collaborative robots and integrate advanced design modelling, programming and fabrication expertise into functional prototypes, as well as having excellent research experience and report writing skills.

The role of Research Associate reports to the Director, Design Futures Lab.

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Completion of a Master degree in a related discipline, e.g., Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a Bachelor degree in a related discipline with excellent project experience in the field. PhD/ PhD candidature in a related field is desirable.
  • Ability to undertake research in industry robot control systems; Understanding processes and systems to support the integration of high-level sensor and motor control systems, e.g., machine vision and path planning
  • Experience programming industrial and/or collaborative robots from KUKA and ABB, including experience of TwinCAT, C/C++, C#, KRL, RAPID, Java, etc.
  • Experience integrating industrial and/or collaborative robots with other industrial technology, e.g., conveyor systems and actuators, to coordinate actions.
  • Good interpersonal skill
  • Ability to undertake/coordinate research activities with industry partners
  • Ability to initiate research activities, multi-task across multiple aspects of the project and perform well under pressure as well as to work cooperatively within a small team
  • Knowledge of UNSW equal opportunity and diversity policies and programs
