We are currently seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on a collaborative, multidisciplinary biosensor development project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). You will join the research group of Dr Chris Coxon in the newly-refurbished Chemistry and Life Sciences laboratories (£12 million from HEFCE) within the School of Pharmacy and Bimolecular Sciences.
The aim of the project is to a) develop a robust methodology to access fluorescent and responsive multicyclic peptides that will be applied to the development of prototype miniaturised biosensor candidates and b) to assess their biological, structural and physical properties. The project is run in collaboration with a local biotechnology company, who work in the area of antimicrobials. The work will involve peptide/organic synthesis, analysis and purification; as well as fluorescence, bio-compatibility and circular dichroism studies.
You should have a PhD with a strong background in synthetic peptide / organic chemistry and chemical biology. In addition, you will be expected to demonstrate that they are an effective and enthusiastic team member and be prepared to work closely with other lab members and to supervise visiting junior students working on related projects. You will have excellent communication skills, demonstrable through written reports, presentations and a proven track record of publications.
Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Chris Coxon, (School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences) email: C.R.Coxon@ljmu.ac.uk
