We wish to appoint a highly motivated Data Manager to provide high-level, self-managed day-to-day database technical support to two research groups: The Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit (MRC-IEU) and the Cancer Research UK funded Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme (ICEP). You will work alongside the principal investigators, programme scientists, programme managers, and other key personnel at the University of Bristol and partner organisations. You will be responsible for day-to-day database support, including ensuring good quality data collections, secure data transfer and sharing, maintaining resources which will be stored securely and used to carry out research and audit, and produce reports, conference presentations and publications. The data will be used locally, nationally and internationally.

The key tasks include writing protocols and standard operating procedures as well as developing databases for managing the research and outcome data and being accountable for ensuring the highest possible standards of data governance are achieved.

You will be expected to work on your own initiative, seeking guidance and advice where necessary. You will have autonomy and freedom to act independently within organisation policies and will need to take a high-level of responsibility. This is an office-based post within the MRC-IEU at Oakfield House, but liaison will be required with researchers at partner organisations and with University IT services.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Tom Gaunt (
