We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join a collaborative project with LiLAC called Communities in Control (CiC), and an NIHR SPHR Austerity and Housing project.

Approximately ten months of the contracted time will focus on fieldwork with local communities involved in the CiC study. We also expect the post holder to be able to engage with relevant national and local practitioners such as those who work for local councils and third sector organisations. The fieldwork itself is primarily qualitative and includes observations, interviews and knowledge translation. Most of the fieldwork will be with communities in Greater London but we assume some need to travel to other parts of England as this is a multi-site collaborative study led by LiLaC (a collaboration between Liverpool and Lancaster Universities). Some fieldwork will take place outside of normal working hours: e.g. evenings and weekends.

The remaining two months will be working on NIHR School for Public Health Research projects, particularly a study of austerity and housing, conducting a policy review.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject (or equivalent experience), along with experience of research synthesis (for example, policy reviews). We expect the post holder to be excellent at engaging with people from the communities we are working with and be able to feed findings back to them in a way that suits community as well as researcher requirements. The post-holder would also be expected to have an understanding of mixed methods evaluations.

The appointment will be fixed term with a start date of 1 May 2018 (or as soon as possible after) and ending on 30 April 2019 for 12 months at 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week). Alternative FTE requests maybe negotiable providing they meet our research requirements (subject to negotiations, visa requirements and approval). The position will be based in LSHTM’s Tavistock Place campus in Bloomsbury, London.

The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 6 scale in the range £38,533 - £39,318 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
