Heron Island Research Station
Heron Island Research Station (HIRS) is part of the Faculty of Science. It is located on a small coral cay 80 km offshore from Gladstone. HIRS has been established for over 60 years. It has developed into Australia's largest, best equipped and most productive university-owned marine research station and is an international facility for coral reef research and student training in marine sciences. The station can accommodate up to one hundred and forty researchers and people in education groups.
HIRS staff usually work a roster system of ten days on, four days off. The University recognises the need for work/life balance and also provides twenty six return catamaran trips to the mainland free of charge to each staff member as well as other generous flexible working arrangements contained in Schedule 7 of The University of Queensland Enterprise Agreement 2014 – 2017.
The successful appointee will be responsible for maintaining all of the Heron Island Research Station’s buildings, equipment, facilities and services to ensure that the highest possible levels of support can be provided to the staff and clients of the Faculty of Science. This role will require you to be rostered ‘on call’ for a reasonable number of hours per week.
Applicants should possess a Electrical trade qualification and have a minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience. You should also hold or be able to quickly gain a Blue Card and a license to operate a front end loader. In addition, experience in a time sensitive and dynamic customer service environment, high level organisational skills, good level of administrative and resource management skills, and excellent knowledge of maintenance requirements are essential.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,597 - $72,348 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $70,734 - $79,222 p.a.).
