Job Description

This position is responsible for covering general news events, developments, and some feature stories in a variety of fields. The Reporter II is responsible for reporting news on-air and online, for the complete execution of a radio story, including conducting interviews, writing scripts, voicing stories, and editing material including audio, and should be a skilled digital journalist comfortable working in a variety of formats. Many of the reporter's assignments will be same-day stories. On some days, this reporter could be assigned to multiple stories on the same day. The reporter will be encouraged to have longer-form, ongoing stories underway as well. This reporter will be a frequent contributor to our newscast unit. A good deal of this reporter's reporting will be done outside the newsroom, at breaking and scheduled news events. There will be occasions when this reporter will be an in-house reporter, working inside the WBUR newsroom -- gathering, writing, and reporting news on wbur.org and in WBUR newscasts and debriefing with hosts in the WBUR magazine news programs, including Morning Edition, Radio Boston, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition. Sometimes the reporter's work will be published online first, and on other occasions broadcast first. Additional duties include developing sources, contributing daily and weekly story ideas while assisting the Managing Editor and Executive News Director and participating at daily editorial meetings. He or she will be able to produce news on a variety of social media platforms, depending on the content of the story and the needs of WBUR. He or she will work a schedule assigned by the Executive News Director and Executive Editor that might deviate from a normal Monday-Friday 9-5:30pm schedule.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred with at least five to eight years of related experience.
