The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health was formed in 2016 by bringing together the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences. With over £122m in annual research income, the Faculty conducts world-leading research in the biological, medical and health sciences. Manchester is the largest centre for medical training in the UK, producing highly-trained and skilled professionals. The Faculty’s success includes hosting the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute; recently winning a bid to be a leading partner in the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre; as well as the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), which brings together the University and major NHS Partners with a ‘One Manchester’ approach within Manchester’s academic health science system, Health Innovation Manchester. In the unique context of devolution of the health and social care budget to Manchester there are unrivalled opportunities for innovation from discovery science, through translation to impact.  These innovations and initiatives combine to make this an exciting time to join the leadership team within the University.

One of the most high-profile roles of its type, nationally and internationally, this post presents exceptional leadership and management opportunities and the chance to operate well beyond the University. As Vice-President, the appointee will make a cross university strategic contribution which will have a direct impact on the delivery of the Manchester 2020 Strategic Vision and beyond. As Dean, this person will ensure that all the Faculty’s activities reflect and support the Manchester 2020 Goals and Enabling Strategies The post- holder will also play a significant part in the development of The Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), within Health Innovation Manchester.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record of academic achievement matched with a proven ability to bring world-class strategic leadership and operational management skills both to a Faculty and University as a whole. They will be an academic leader, with an internationally recognised profile of outstanding personal achievement within the fields of Biology, Medicine and Health, ideally as an active clinician. An entrepreneurial mind-set and the ability to manage complex stakeholder groups from all backgrounds will also be key to success in this role.
