The School of Engineering and Applied Science has a focus on designing and delivering professionally relevant programmes and research informed teaching to help to prepare our graduates to enter and impact industry. Our optional paid professional placement year allows our students to exploit our connections with business and industry, and put theory into practice in real world scenarios.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on a two-year project (May 2017 – April 2019) entitled “Cascade processes for integrated bio-refining of agricultural waste in India and Vietnam” funded by the BBSRC GCRF. This is a network of multiple partners across Europe and Asia focused on bio-refining of agricultural waste. You will develop efficient photocatalytic water depollution materials and reaction systems to treat and recycle water in bio-refining process. Due to the iterative nature of the project you will require significant interaction with the other members of the consortium.

You will have a strong track record in photocatalysis and material chemistry and have, or recently submitted a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical engineering or other relevant subject. Ideally, you will have experience of designing, synthesising and testing nanostructured (porous, hierarchical, core/shell or hybrid) semiconductor photocatalysts along with experience of designing, operating and assessing photocatalytic water depollution systems. Experience of large-scale waste water treatment and water quality analysis is also highly desirable.
