The University of Edinburgh
Appointment of Director of Human Resources

One of the world’s top 25 institutions, the University of Edinburgh is internationally renowned for the depth and breadth of its research, the high quality of its teaching and learning, and its entrepreneurial and creative culture. With over 14,000 staff and 39,000 students, Edinburgh is a truly global university, rooted in Scotland, but with global impact.

As the University sets out its ambitious vision for 2025, people will be at the heart of its implementation, from the recruitment of staff to sustain our research power, teaching excellence and enhanced collaboration with external partners, to creating an environment that is recognised as an outstanding and collegial place to work.

The University is now looking to appoint a new Director of Human Resources who will play a pivotal role in implementing this vision. The Director will shape the University’s people strategies and policies, and provide visionary leadership to the Human Resources function at a time of transformational change.

The successful candidate will have a track record of high-impact leadership in an organisation of relevant complexity and scale, and of delivering progressive human resources strategies and change initiatives. They will be able to provide confident leadership and build relationships across the University, possess outstanding influencing and people skills, and bring a genuine commitment to transparency, equality and inclusion. An understanding of the challenges facing the higher education sector and appreciation for the complexity of the University would also be beneficial, though diversity of experience is welcome and encouraged.

The University of Edinburgh will be supported in this appointment by executive search firm, Perrett Laver, who will help to identify the widest possible field of qualified candidates and assist in their assessment against the requirements for this role.
