A Postdoc position is available at the Department of Chemical Engineering for a period of 2 years. The position is financed by Lyng Drilling, Schlumberger, and the Department of Chemical Engineering. The industrial innovation project invites applications for the post-doctoral position focusing on the development of extreme hard-material by coating technology through wet chemistry and gaseous treatment. The main goal of the work is to develop core-shell materials with tunable surface properties.

Information about the department

The current research fields at the Department includes catalysis, colloid and polymer chemistry, environmental engineering and reactor technology and process systems engineering. Information about the department is available at: 


The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in materials science, chemical engineering or equivalent, having a strong background in material preparation, characterization as well as process development. The successful candidate is a creative, independently working individual who can integrate well into our multidisciplinary and multicultural team. 

A strong experience in chemical vapor deposition and advanced characterization of materials will be considered as an advantage. The highly motivated candidate with good communication skills must be willing to collaborate with the industrial partner involved in the project.

The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skill by an approved test, unless their education was in English.

The starting date is as soon as possible, and the primary workplace will be Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. 

Terms of employment

The appointment of the Postdoc will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.  

NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.

The position as Postdoc is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
