Salary: Reader £49,149 - £58,655; Professor £58,293 - £72,012

Grade: Reader UH9; Professor AM1 – AM3

FTE: 1.0 FTE working 37 hours per week

The School of Engineering and Technology has one of the largest aerospace engineering undergraduate programmes in the UK and numerous collaborations with the aerospace industrial sector. The School is seeking to appoint an exceptional academic as a Reader or Professor in Aerospace Structures. 

You will have expertise in aerospace structures engineering, be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of research publications and of working with external organisations. You will have experience of, and skills in, generating income in the field of aerospace structures. You will have excellent communications skills, experience of supervising post graduate research students and lecturing to all levels of students. For the professorship role you will have experience of leading academic staff and/or research teams.

For this appointment your focus will be on providing academic leadership and on delivering high quality research. You will contribute to teaching and project supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level as well as making a major contribution to our future research success. You will play a significant part in the development of strategy and policies relating to research and entrepreneurship. You will secure external funding, publish work in internationally recognised journals, present where appropriate at conferences and will build collaborative national and international networks and programmes. You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the refurbishment and enhancement of our aerospace engineering laboratories and facilities. 

The School has research activity that covers materials and structures, microfluidics and microengineering, sustainable energy technologies, smart systems, devices and networks, and aerospace engineering. The School has a growing REF profile with research that is recognised as internationally excellent. 

The successful applicant will have a Doctorate or Higher Doctorate in a relevant aerospace engineering subject.
