Student Engagement Officer
Salary Level: Classification Level 5 (Salary range A$66,509 to A$74,951 gross per annum pro rata plus up to 9.5% employer superannuation contributions)
Appointment: Full-time, fixed-term for 1 year

Overview of Indigenous Services
Indigenous Services focuses on creating a vibrant and healthy community through providing a professional and responsive service to students, staff and other stakeholders; student-centred goal setting to improve transition, success, and retention; a commitment to social justice and increasing attainment of students under-represented in higher education. Indigenous Services works in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within Student Wellbeing and Student Services and Engagement that provide a range of services to assist students to engage with their learning and campus life, and to fulfill their academic and personal aspirations.
Overview of the Role
Under the general direction of the Student Engagement Coordinator, the Student Engagement Officer implements strategies to advance the participation, progression and completion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in education at USC. The role focuses on enabling prospective students to make informed choices about their study and careers, and delivers and monitors initiatives that empower students in their preparatory, undergraduate, and postgraduate education.
The key responsibilities of this role include the provision of accurate and timely advice on student assistance initiatives, maintenance of information resources including learning materials and electronic student records, and the coordination of the tuition program which includes the recruitment and induction of mentors. The Student Engagement Officer will also assist in the preparation of reports and contribute to planning processes, working parties and committees by providing expertise on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander best practice engagement and empowerment strategies.
To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (Qld) 1991.
The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree combined with experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities to meet their learning and cultural needs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent will have the ability to maintain confidentiality, use initiative, establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and demonstrate excellent communication and information technology skills. The incumbent will also have sound knowledge and understanding of current issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in relation to education.
