The UQ Genomics Initiative offers a clear point of entry to UQ's collective genomic capabilities, including its interactions with government and industry. The Director ensures that the UQ Genomics Initiative facilitates interdisciplinary interactions in fundamental and applied research, education, training and consulting across all faculties and institutes with a firm establishment of UQ as an international leader in genomics research.
The primary purpose of this position is to conduct research as part of a project investigating the functional biology of internal annual time keeping mechanisms in vertebrates and the evolution of these mechanism in response to natural and artificial selection. The successful appointee will work closely with an interdisciplinary team consisting of several international collaborators, and will be responsible for generating laboratory data and performing a variety of analyses on transcriptomic and genomic data generated on Pacific Biosciences sequencing platforms, constructing sequencing libraries, and generating data using a PacBio Sequel system.
Applicants should possess a PhD in the discipline of genomics, genetics, bioinformatics or related disciplines. You should have experience in third-generation sequencing data analyses, expertise in molecular biology laboratory experiments, experience in sequencing sample and library preparation, and excellent knowledge in evolutionary biology and comparative genomics. You should also have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a high level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 12 months at Research Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $64,534 - $81,546 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $75,505 - $95,409 p.a.).
