School of Psychology

Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. Today, we’re a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos.

Two posts are to undertake research in the area of animal welfare, in line with the School’s research strategy, the successful candidates will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and they will contribute to School administration/outreach activities.

The successful candidate must have:

  • An Undergraduate honours degree in Psychology or closely related discipline, or, postgraduate degree in Psychology.
  • A PhD (or be about to obtain) in a relevant area of research (PhD must be completed at time of taking up post).
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant research experience.
  • Strong theoretical and empirical background in animal welfare and behaviour.
  • Research experience in animal welfare and behaviour.
  • Research interests that are sustainable and that complement and enhance existing research activities within the School, particularly the interests of the existing staff in the Animal Behaviour Centre.
  • A strong publication record in peer reviewed journals/conference papers, commensurate with stage of career and ability to be returned in REF 2020
  • Experience of teaching psychology to undergraduates/postgraduates (When completing the application, individuals must provide information on their teaching experience, including degree programme, class size, type of teaching e.g. lectures, tutorials).
  • Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.

Salary scale:     £35,550 - £49,149 per annum (potential to progress to £52,132 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution)
