Overview of Information Services, Library
Information Services is a service branch that supports both the University’s commitment to providing an excellent educational experience for students and to improving institutional effectiveness. The Branch provides services, resources and facilities to support the learning, teaching and research activities of the University. To that end and in collaboration with colleagues and peer organisations, IS contributes to innovations and infrastructure that are critical to the advancement of research, teaching and engagement in the digital information age. Its services are interwoven into all aspects of the University’s business and are founded on a strong service ethic and a culture that values innovation and diversity.
The Library is a strategic partner in the teaching, research and scholarship activities of the University. Library staff work collaboratively with academic staff to develop quality collections and contribute to teaching and research. The Library provides service, collections and spaces to enhance the student experience and contribute to student success.
Overview of the Role
As a member of the Library team, and under the general direction of the Team Leader, Student Experience, the Library Assistant provides first tier support for library and self-service printing, with an emphasis on quality client service. The Library Assistant also assists with a range of tasks including collection management; scanning and data entry as required.
The incumbent will hold a relevant trade certificate or have completed year 12 with relevant work experience; or equivalent relevant experience; or a combination of relevant experience and education/training.
The incumbent will demonstrate experience in, and a commitment to, quality client service including the ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work well independently, and in a team environment, are essential.
Well developed computer literacy and proficiency in the MicroSoft suite of applications with strong skills in data entry are required.
A sound knowledge of library functions and processes is desirable.
The incumbent will need to be able to undertake the physical requirements of the position including shelving material.
Additionally, in accordance with the University’s Staff Code of Conduct – Governing Policy, all staff are expected to display professional behaviour, communicate respectfully, and perform their duties responsibly.
