One Master’s by research position working with railway vehicle dynamics and inertial measurement systems affiliated to the Centre for Railway Engineering, CQUniversity, Rockhampton Campus, Australia

This new scholarship, funded by the Australasian Centre for Railway Innovation (ACRI) and its partners, focuses on evaluating responses of railway vehicles to track defects in order to investigate and develop equivalent methods of specifying track quality with inertial instruments. The associated project title is called “Inertial Track Geometry Defect Levels” and will investigate the dynamics currently accepted in typical road worthiness standards and the development of equivalent inertial measurements. At least five typical railway vehicles will be studied in depth and the research program will be an excellent opportunity to gain expertise in rail vehicle system dynamics.

Working Environment and Scholarship Conditions:

The scholarship is for a student studying a Master’s Degree by research. The student will be based at the CQUniversity, North Rockhampton Campus and the research is affiliated with the Centre of Railway Engineering (http://www.cqu.edu.au/cre) at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia. This will allow her/him to have access to laboratory infrastructure and all the required software packages and hardware systems for safe testing and the development of new technologies. The scholarship is competitive by international and national standards (AUD 35,000 per year tax free, for 2 years).

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree or similar in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering. Candidates with research or project experience in vehicle system dynamics and simulation will receive additional merit during the selection process. It is desirable to have relevant publications in recognised conferences/journals. This project will require the candidate to be highly autonomous but he/she must also be a good team player. Excellent English language skills are mandatory.
