One PhD position working in track monitoring technologies affiliated to Centre for Railway Engineering, CQUniversity-Rockhampton Campus, Australia

This new scholarship, funded by Rail Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (RMCRC) and its partners, focuses on the development of new and innovative approaches to track defect monitoring and data reporting. The working title of the project is ‘Efficient Daily Track Monitoring System’. This project will include innovative research exploring the latest advances in instrumentation, communications technology and innovations in the Internet of Things (IoT) combined with the challenges of instrumentation in the railway environment.

Working Environment and Scholarship Conditions:

The student will be based at the CQUniversity-North Rockhampton Campus and the research is affiliated to Centre of Railway Engineering (http://www.cqu.edu.au/cre) at Central Queensland University, Rockhampton, Australia. This will allow her/him to have access to laboratory infrastructure and all the required software packages and hardware systems for safe testing and the development of new components. The PhD scholarship is competitive by international and national standards (AUD 40,000 per year tax-free, for 3 years).

Requirements:

The ideal candidate holds a postgraduate degree or a bachelor’s degree with first-class honours or similar in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering having specialisations relevant areas. Candidates with research or project experience in vehicle dynamics and simulation will receive additional merit in the selection process. Candidates with research or project experience in areas such as Instrumentation and Control, Data Acquisition, Signal Processing, Image Processing and Data fusion will receive additional merit in the selection process.It is also very desirable to have relevant publications in recognized conferences/journals. This project requires the candidate being highly autonomous but he/she must also be a good team player. Excellent English language skills are required.
