Liverpool John Moores University seeks to appoint to this new senior position in the Vice-Chancellor’s office to lead the University’s Foundation for Citizenship.  The Director of the Foundation for Citizenship will manage and drive forward the vision for the Foundation, ensuring that opportunities are provided for students and staff across the institution to contribute positively to society and to encourage active, informed and responsible citizens – “Helping make society work together”.

The Foundation was established in 1997 around the Roscoe Lectures series, to become the vehicle through which LJMU conducts its social engagement activities.  LJMU has been intrinsically connected to its region since its foundation and is in the vanguard of universities pioneering ways of strengthening communities through engagement activity.

You will be an individual of significant standing and experience in community engagement through work with charities, schools, arts & cultural organisations, as well as local government and other community groups.   You will have a strong track record of moving a corporate strategy into a comprehensive implementation plan across a large and complex organisation; a good knowledge of the value of higher education to society and of how to apply university assets for societal benefit; and a strategic understanding of the social, cultural and economic issues in the Liverpool City Region.

The University has a strong history of community engagement and leadership around citizenship.    Having renewed our strategic framework for the period 2017-22 this is an exciting time to join the University to lead the activities under the rubric of the Foundation, working with other directors and staff across the institution to strengthen engagement, broker stronger partnerships and increase the impact of the University’s civic engagement.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Edward Harcourt, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), email: or phone:  0151-231-3033/3724

Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.
