A postdoctoral Research Associate is required immediately to work on a 36 month project funded by the MRC-Newton Fund, investigating the role of lipid metabolism in flavivirus infection.

The aim of the collaborative research project, which involves researchers at the University of Bristol and Mahidol University in Thailand, is to use advanced high-throughput liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to analyse how lipid metabolism is perturbed during flavivirus infection and specifically define the lipids that are key for flavivirus replication and particle assembly.

The project will use bioinformatic, biochemical, cell biology and virological techniques to confirm the role of specific lipids in flavivirus infection, focussing on viruses of particular concern in Thailand.

The position is open to candidates who have or are soon to obtain a PhD in biomedical or related sciences. Experience with high-throughput mass spectrometry based lipidomics/proteomics, metabolomic/proteomic bioinformatics, molecular biology, protein/lipid purification, virology and tissue culture techniques are essential.

The project will be supervised by Dr Andrew Davidson. Informal inquiries are welcome and may be addressed to Dr Andrew Davidson (tel: +44 (0) 117 331 2024; email: andrew.davidson@bristol.ac.uk)

The closing date for applications is midnight on Tuesday 20 March 2018.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
