We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant (RA) or Research Fellow (RF) in health economics to work on the PEMBA project, a 3-year research programme funded by the Wellcome Trust, Medical Research Council, Economic and Social Research Council and the Department for International Development’s Health Systems Research Initiative.  The post holder will support this research study by examining the mechanisms and effects of performance based financing (PBF) to improve maternal and child health in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.  The post holder will analyse and link secondary quantitative datasets to determine the effects of PBF on the health system, causal mechanisms, and short and long term outcomes.  The post holder will support capacity building of local partners, and work collaboratively with economists in other UK institutions.

The post will be at either Research Assistant or Research Fellow level. The post is available for 24 months and offers a unique and excellent opportunity to explore how pay for performance schemes operate in different settings, offering potential for major impact in academia and policy. The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Health Economics or a related field, as well as experience working with partners/in LMICs. Expertise in analysing datasets using Stata is essential.

The post is part-time (0.4FTE, 14 hours per week) and based in London. The salary will be on the Academic Pathway Research Assistant Grade 5 scale in the range £33,567-£38,533, or Research Fellow Grade 6 scale £38,533 - £43,759 pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
