About us

Southern Cross University, ranked in the Asia-Pacific's top 100 universities and the top 150 universities in the world under 50 years old (Times Higher Education Young University Rankings for 2017), is a progressive, young and connected research university, with vibrant campuses in two states. They are in locations of extraordinary natural beauty and creativity: Coffs Harbour in the Mid North Coast and Lismore in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, while our fastest-growing campus is located at the Gold Coast Airport in southern Queensland, overlooking Kirra Beach.

We also offer degrees in Sydney and Melbourne at branch campuses and through The Hotel School in partnership with Mulpha Australia. Many of our degrees are available in a dynamic online form. Whether studying on-campus, online, or both, we deliver exciting, contemporary and high quality learning experiences. We also deliver degrees with collaborators in China, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.

Our growing world-class status is reinforced by our outstanding research reputation. The Excellence in Research for Australia report has ranked Southern Cross as ‘at world standard or above’ across 24 diverse research fields of global and national significance.

Coffs Harbour campus, located midway between Sydney and Brisbane, offers a friendly learning environment, close to some of the finest surf beaches and a spectacular World Heritage rainforest. Contemporary teaching facilities include a purpose-built nursing laboratory complete with simulated wards, physiology and neuroscience laboratories and early childhood teaching facilities. The University operates the world-class National Marine Science Centre on the northern side of Coffs Harbour, adjacent to the Solitary Islands Marine Park.

Coffs Harbour is the main regional centre of the Coffs Coast, which stretches from Scotts Head in the south to Red Rock in the north and inland to the New England National Park. The Traditional Custodians are the Gumbayngirr People. During the 1950s the Coffs Coast was considered the major banana-producing region of Australia. The population of the region is about 73,000 and major industries include manufacturing, tourism and primary production. The region is renowned as a holiday destination with a pristine coastline including 30 beaches.

The Library is integral to learning, discovery and engagement at Southern Cross University, providing resources and services that facilitate teaching and learning, and support the research activities of the University. The Library’s mission is to foster quality learning, teaching and research for the University and its communities through innovative, effective access to resources, and client-focused services.

Libraries are located at each of the three campus locations, each with its own distinct and unique characteristics. Services are provided equitably for clients on campus and online both within Australia and overseas, and to international students located in a number of countries.

The Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC) is a joint partnership between the University, TAFE and Senior College.
