The Art and Art History program is currently inviting applications for a full-time Lecturer in 2D media to begin Fall 2018. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an active studio practice with an emphasis in painting, drawing, and mixed-media, and should be well-versed in contemporary and historical issues in painting, drawing, photography, and printmaking. The candidate must be able to demonstrate as well as communicate varied painting techniques and concepts to a diverse student body. They will possess a strong working knowledge of the history of painting and 2D media, an ability to articulate contemporary theory and current debates on art, and a broad command of the technical skills necessary for contemporary image-making.

The ideal applicant will also have an understanding of key pedagogical approaches to art education, will be able to teach artistic writing and exhibition design and techniques, and will play an essential role in contributing to the evolving vision and future trajectory of the Visual Arts curriculum. They will be expected to help oversee development of the resources and physical infrastructure of the 2D studio classrooms and will be expected to teach students at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels. 
While our 2D classes are designed to provide a solid foundation in painting, drawing, and printmaking, these classes also place significant emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to art making. Our students are encouraged to experiment with a wide range of techniques, materials, and ideas, both traditional and experimental. The successful candidate will thus have the ability to teach and mentor students working in expanded or interdisciplinary approaches to 2D media. Candidates for this position should hold an MFA or equivalent degree and 2 years of university-level teaching experience (including graduate teaching assistantships). They must have strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and actively interact with students in a multicultural education setting. Connection or experience with the region is also a plus. The ideal candidate should also have experience and expertise with studio facilities management and mentoring and supervising student studio assistants.
