Preceptor in Physics
School Faculty of Arts and Sciences
The Department of Physics at Harvard University seeks applications for a Preceptor in Physics. Working closely with faculty and staff in the Department of Physics, the preceptor will oversee all aspects of small group, hands-on instruction in a lab-intensive introductory course in electronic circuit design. The course is targeted to a wide range of students and includes applications in physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences.
The position, which is expected to start July 1, 2018, is for an initial appointment of one year, with the possibility of reappointment up to a maximum of eight years total. Reappointment is contingent upon performance, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean approval.
Candidates must have broad and deep knowledge and experience with analog (discrete and op-amp) and digital (standard logic, programmable logic, Verilog, microcontroller, and interface) electronic circuit design, breadboarding, and debugging. Prior teaching experience is highly desirable, as is experience in industrial or scientific electronic circuit/instrument design. The primary course responsibility is for Physics 123/223 (also listed as Engineering Sciences 153). Although the course has a Physics title, the primary subject area is electrical engineering, in which a masters degree (or equivalent career experience) is a prerequisite for candidacy.
