At the Faculty of Mathematics, Institute of Scientific Computing, the Junior Professorship in Applied Mathematics invites applications for a position as a

Research Associate/PhD Student
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

The position entails 50% of the fulltime weekly hours, starts as soon as possible and is initially limited until 31.12.2020. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e.g.  PhD).

Tasks: Research on the development and implementation of efficient simulation algorithms for physical quantum systems (e.g., “tensor networks”, “artificial neural networks”) and quantum Boltzmann models; teaching duties according to DAVOHS, supervision of seminars and theses, drafting of exam problems, conducting post-exam reviews, creating teaching documents, consulting.

Qualifications: university degree (Diploma or Master’s) in mathematics, physics or informatics. Candidates should have thorough knowledge in Numerics and Scientific Computing, and be acquainted with quantum mechanics. The active participation in the research projects at the Junior Professorship in Applied Mathematics and interest in interdisciplinary projects is expected.
