Associate Professor in Health Sciences, Movement Science
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (MH) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) announces a newly created post as Associate Professorship in Health Sciences (Movement Science) as a permanent post. The position is affiliated with the Centre for Elite Sports Research (SenTIF). This is a 100 % post, funded by The Ministry of culture through grants to SenTIF. The position is funded by earmarked state funds and ceases if the funding and work tasks expire.
SenTIF's purpose is:
- to conduct applied research focusing on developing new knowledge of movement technique, physiology and motor behavior in competitive sports for abled-bodied and disabled athletes, and
- to convey new knowledge of movement technique and motor behaviour that can improve Norwegian elite sport achievements at international level.

Subject area and description of the area of responsibility for the post
Together with the department’s other academic staff, the person holding the post is responsible for teaching and research in the discipline of movement science. This includes the person's own research, and supervision of students in the discipline. The person holding the post is also obliged to take part in administrative duties.
The person holding the post will be given special responsibility for research and teaching within the field of human movement science, focusing on biological subjects and SenTIF's activities, and for the development of the Centre for Elite Sports Research. He or she should lead projects under the SenTIF mandate and will be given space to develop own research within the center's research area. However, the focus must be on movement technique and physical performance in elite sports.
For appointment as an associate professor is a doctoral degree in the subject area concerned or competence at a corresponding level documented by academic work of the same scope and quality. A further requirement is documentation of relevant practical competence in teaching based on education or on teaching and supervision. The successful applicant must be able to document extensive professional qualifications as well as scientific expertise in one or more aspects of the discipline for which this post is responsible. The ability to initiate and lead research and teaching will be emphasized, in addition to teaching and supervision at PhD level.
Employees who do not have formal qualifications in teaching at university level and who cannot provide documentation of equivalent qualifications must complete an approved course in teaching at university level within two years of appointment. The University offers such courses.
It is important that applicants have good teamwork skills, management experience and ability to work interchangeably across traditional subjects. Emphasis will also be placed on personal aptitude and teaching skills. The evaluation will be based on documented material related to teaching, including qualifications in educational theory and practice, presentation skills in academic work, teaching experience, and other pedagogical background. Quality and breadth will be evaluated.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in movement- or sports science with biological direction (biomechanics, physiology, motor behavior) or equivalent. Experience with coupling of applied and basic research in performance sport or related areas is a requirement. Applicants must have experience with computer programming and development of analytical tools.
General information about the post
The person holding the post is obliged to participate in implementation of the teaching programme according to the curricula in effect and in further development of the subject areas and teaching programmes, including continuing and further education.
The appointee is expected to teach within their relevant expertise across all study programmes at the faculty.
The person holding the post must help to ensure that students develop a global perspective on health and knowledge about global health challenges in their own subject area, and must contribute to cooperation focused on global health challenges in both research and education.
The person appointed must comply with the decisions about changes due to developments in the subject area, and the organizational changes resulting from decisions regarding the university's activities.
The appointment is subject to the conditions in effect at any time for employees in the public sector.

- Depending on qualifications and academic background, Associated Professors (in code 1011) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will be remunerated at a minimum of NOK 490 500 per year before tax. Normal wage level is NOK 490 500 - 649 800 of which 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
