In 2013 ISSR secured funding to lead a new Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence aimed to break the cycle of social disadvantage across generations and within families.

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Children and Families over the Life Course (the Life Course Centre) researches the causes of deep and persistent disadvantage, with the aim of improving the lives of Australia’s most disadvantaged people. The Life Course Centre is administered by the Institute for Social Science Research at the University of Queensland, and has nodes based at the University of Western Australia, the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne.
