This vital senior role is ideal for a committed and focused individual looking for the role that will take their career to the next level, and will also see our successful candidate act as a scholar of international distinction, who maintains their scholarly activity whilst Head.

About this pivotal role

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty of Science, your main focus will be to offer overall strategic leadership, guidance and management on all operational matters of the School, whilst developing and implementing a clear and forward-looking vision for the School’s future. This includes overseeing staff development, operating a sound budget and ensuring the School is run for the benefit of its staff and students and the University as a whole.

Developing the School’s reputation as a leading national and international centre for all of its research, enterprise and innovation activities is a key requirement, as is ensuring that all of the staff in the School are focused on delivering a high quality and challenging learning experience for students, which includes a strong student voice.

In addition to leading the School and playing an integral role within the University’s management structure – which will see you act as a member of the University Senate, you will, as a scholar of international distinction, maintain your scholarly activity whilst Head. You will also be appointed to a permanent Professorial position inside the School.

To secure this exciting opportunity, you will have:

  • A relevant doctoral qualification (or equivalent relevant professional experience)
  • A distinguished national and international track record of outstanding academic and research leadership
  • A strong background of offering strategic leadership, guidance and personal development
  • A sound understanding of how higher education works
  • Have a current track-record of research funding and outputs
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
