About the scholarship
A PhD scholarship is available for industry leading research into the the social, cultural and personal implications of Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with Appearition, a leading provider of Augmented Reality enterprise solutions in the workplace. The scholarship is provided through joint funding from Appearition And Swinburne University Faculty of Health, Arts and Design.
The Embodied Movement Design (EMD) Studio is a new facility within the school of Film and Animation.
Facilities within the lab include:
- A state of the art optical motion capture system within a purpose-designed studio with a 10 metre x 15 metre capture volume.
- A Virtual Reality (VR) room with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Gear VR and other VR systems.
- Mobile Augmented Reality capability including Microsoft Hololens, location beacons, mini portable projection and a range of mobile AR devices
- Large–scale Stereoscopic 3D projection using passive polarised stereo glasses
- 3D printing including carbon fibre, nylon and fibreglass
- A humanoid robotics lab
- 4K projection system suitable for indoor and outdoor projection mapping
The Embodied Movement Design Studio undertakes research into human centred and embodied approaches to design and implementation of solutions in the arts, workplace and leisure industries.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:
- A Bachelor degree Honours and/or a research master’s degree in a discipline relevant to the research topic (or equivalent)
- Enthusiastic and self-motivated person who meets the academic requirements for enrollment for the PhD degree at Swinburne University of Technology
- A background in Media Arts, Game Design, Human Computer Interface or a related field
