Head of Strategic Planning

Full-time: 35 hours per week

The University of the West of Scotland is a dynamic and ambitious organisation that aims to change lives, transform communities and encourage enterprise through outstanding, distinctive and progressive higher education.

UWS, as one of Scotland’s biggest modern universities with Scottish campuses in Ayr, Dumfries, Lanarkshire and Paisley, is the local university for over 30% of the population of central Scotland. It also has a growing national and international reach; our 5th UK campus opened in London in September 2015 and already has over 1000 students.

Our Directorate of Strategic Planning and Development is seeking to appoint an exceptionally talented individual to support delivery of the University’s Corporate Strategy. Working closely with the Director of Strategic Planning & Development, you will be responsible for identifying and analysing critical issues and for providing evidence-based briefings across the range of the University’s strategic planning activities.

As Head of Strategic Planning you will take a lead role in the monitoring, review and reporting process for key strategic performance targets and in synthesising management information across all aspects of UWS delivery.

In this senior and critical role, you will have a demonstrable track record of achievement in the drafting and implementation of strategy and policy in a large and complex organisation along with a proven ability to analyse, interpret, present and clearly communicate complex briefings to colleagues at all levels.  Whilst you will have a strong understanding of data and data sources relevant to Higher Education, your primary strength will be in providing succinct and insightful analysis and evidence-based strategic commentary and recommendation.

Supporting the Director of Strategic Planning & Development in engagement with the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Government and other key stakeholders, an in depth and comprehensive understanding of Higher Education in Scotland is essential in addition to an aptitude in developing effective internal and external collaborative relationships.
