Job Description

The Student Academic Functional Analyst III is responsible for the business and functional analysis of packaged and custom applications used to enable Boston University’s Student Systems service. Student Systems services include functions such as Recruiting, Admissions, Student Records, Curriculum Management and Study Abroad. The Student Academic Functional Analyst III is an advanced professional role that may work on multiple projects as a project leader or frequently as the subject matter expert. This individual will participate in projects that require working with Student Systems clients on business and functional analysis across a variety of business processes enabled by packaged and custom developed applications. This individual will also work with development/technology teams to ensure functional requirements are successfully translated to systems solutions including the definition of data mappings for required integrations. The Student Academic Functional Analyst III will participate in a support role in testing new functionality, regression testing existing functionality, integration testing, and User Acceptance Testing. This individual will also work with client in the development of training materials for business functions associated with Auxiliary Systems. The Student Academic Functional Analyst III will also be responsible for operational support and maintenance of various applications enabling university processes and systems. This includes engaging Student Systems’ clients and other technical resources to prioritize and work support tickets. Operational support will also include working with the vendors of packaged applications on problem resolution and understanding functional impacts related to patches and upgrades.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or other related field. Or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years of work experience as a business or functional analyst with demonstrated knowledge in information systems software implementations. Preferably multiple implementations. Higher Ed implementation experience is desirable
  • Experience with business process and information systems modeling techniques such as UML or BPMN
  • Experience with development and execution of functional test cases
  • Experience with development and delivery of end user training for packaged and custom applications
  • Experience and/or certification in ITIL service management practices is desirable
  • Experience with Recruitment, Admissions, Student Records, Curriculum Management and/or Study Abroad business processes is desirable
  • Experience with and/or TargetX is desirable
  • Understanding of project management concepts and frameworks such as waterfall, Prince 2, Scrum
  • Experience working on multiple projects as a leader or frequently as the subject matter expert.
  • Experience working on projects/issues of medium to high complexity that require demonstrated knowledge across multiple functional areas and business segments
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior technical staff
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in the following software packages: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to work with subject matter experts (SMEs) and business partners within the University to elicit the information necessary for technical design
  • Deadline driven with little oversight
  • Team player, professional and self-confidence
