As one of the major schools of architecture in Germany, the Faculty of Architecture pursues an integrated approach combining analytical, research-oriented areas and the practical fields of design and planning, joining their different methods and practices. Being one of Germany’s eleven “universities of excellence” TU Dresden provides ideal conditions for a highly attractive transdisciplinary research network, particularly through its close cooperation with research and cultural institutions outside university (DRESDEN-concept).

The Faculty of Architecture, Institute of Buildings and Design is inviting applications for the tenured 

Chair (W3) of Residential Buildings and Design

to be filled by October 1, 2019. 

The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Residential Buildings and Design with a commitment to both teaching and research. The field comprises teaching the well-founded theoretical and practical knowledge in the whole area of residential typologies, including transformation processes in the existing building stock as well as the generation of sustainable housing concepts that stay abreast of social developments. The faculty attaches importance to the professor’s ability and expertise in continuing this field’s interdisciplinary potentials in teaching and research. The professor primarily will teach in the Diploma programme in architecture. He or she will be expected to participate in academic self-administration and in international cooperation and exchange programmes.

Applicants should demonstrate outstanding abilities in planning and designing residential buildings as well as being able to work conceptually at the interface with related disciplines. Preferred is a candidate with good evidence of pedagogical aptitude and international professional/academic experiences since graduation. A candidate’s readiness to offer occasional courses in English and to take up residency in Dresden is desirable. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (Higher Education Act of the Free State of Saxony – SächsHSFG).
