We are looking for a skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate with excellent interpersonal skills to work on an innovative research project that has been funded through the ERA CoBioTech call, on which Aston is the lead partner.

This multidisciplinary, intersectoral project is entitled “MEmbrane Modulation for BiopRocess enhANcEment (MeMBrane)”. The project focusses on altering components of the cell membrane in various microbial systems to improve the efficiency and sustainability of biotechnological processes. MeMBrane involves a network of 7 partners and 2 subcontractors across Europe. The role, based at Aston University, will involve lipidomic analysis of samples from industrially-relevant microorganisms, in vitro analysis of membrane stability and microbial strain engineering. Due to the iterative nature of the project the role will require significant interaction with the other members of the consortium and travel to various destinations within Europe.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in cell membrane lipid and protein biochemistry and possess, or have recently submitted a PhD. Ideally, they will have experience of membrane protein expression, purification and characterization along with biophysical assays of lipid membranes. Experience of performing lipidomic analysis of complex samples is also highly desirable. In addition, it would be beneficial if they have experience of working on multi-partner intersectoral projects.

Further particulars and application forms are available in alternative formats on request i.e. large print, Braille, tape or CD Rom.
