The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit (ATSIS Unit) is the University of Queensland’s [UQ] interdisciplinary place of Indigenous learning and research in the areas of Indigenous knowledge and related academic fields. The ATSIS Unit is focused on the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in higher education and works with the University to create an inclusive environment for Indigenous people’s cultures, knowledge and ways of learning.
The primary function of the position is to assist with the development and implementation of a comprehensive InspireU plan and to support the delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student outreach activities and community engagement. The InspireU Officer will deliver the team's activities in co-ordination with, and report to, the Outreach and Engagement Manager. They will liaise with all staff in UQ’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit, as well as relevant Faculties, Schools and other project partners.
Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree or demonstrate an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. This role requires an individual who has excellent organisational and time management skills, well developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Knowledge of the Australian school and tertiary education system and an understanding of the barriers, challenges and constraints that inhibit aspiration to university level study for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people would be an advantage.
This is a full-time, fixed term (12 month) appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207.07 - $79,964.50 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package range $81,256.74 - $ 87,561.13 p.a.).
