Postdoctoral Position for Characterisation of High Purity Quartz and its Surfaces

In a project with The Quartz Corp, a leading producer of quartz sand, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, invites applications for a post-doctoral position focusing on the experimental characterisation of quartz sand minerals. Goal of the work is to develop and apply experimental tools to understand the effect of processing on the fundamental surface and bulk properties of quartz sand, and how these properties affect the end use of the quartz sand.
The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in materials science, chemistry or physics and have a strong background in surface chemistry. The successful candidate is a creative, independently working individual who can integrate well into our multidisciplinary and multicultural team. A strong experience in vibrational spectroscopy, crystallography including surface crystallography, chemical surface modification of SiO2-based materials, coupled with working knowledge of multivariant data analysis will be a competitive advantage. The highly motivated candidate with good communication skills must be willing to collaborate with the industrial partner involved in the project.
The duration of the position is 2 years. NTNU offers exciting possibilities for highly qualified and motivated scientists in the initial phases of their career.

The starting date is as early as possible, preferably 1 May 2018, and is subject to signature of all necessary agreements between the involved partners in the project.
The primary workplace will be Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. The appointment of the post-doctoral fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations for university employees in Norway.
The position requires spoken and written fluency in the English language. Applicants from non-English-speaking countries outside Europe must document English skill by an approved test, unless their education was in English. As the project involves interaction with local industry, working knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language is an advantage.
The appointment of the post doctor fellow will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.
The position as Post doctor is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
