Job number     SUPP103912

Salary    £28,936 - £32,548
Closing date for applications     04-Mar-2018

Are you an enthusiastic and capable engineer or technician who would relish the opportunity to use your knowledge to help educate the next generation of engineers?

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Teaching Technician based in the Faculty of Engineering’s new General Engineering Laboratory at the University of Bristol.

You will have a good knowledge of engineering laboratory management and the practical implementation of this. Using your proved hands-on engineering background you will work with staff and colleagues to deliver a well-run, safe and effective teaching laboratory for the Faculty of Engineering. Working with academic teaching staff you will contribute to developing and enhance the capabilities and remit of the laboratory and enhance the experience of students and staff who are taught in and use the facility. Proved experience of successful teaching and demonstrating would be an advantage but is not essential.

The General Engineering Laboratory, which you will run, is used for structural testing, using state-of-the-art test machines; design and manufacture classes seeing use of the laser cutter, hand tools and other equipment; and bespoke structural test rigs for teaching mechanics and other subjects.

The post is full time with 39 days leave (rising to 40 days after 5 years) including bookable holiday, bank holidays and university closure days. We would consider term-time and flexible working arrangements for this post.

The University of Bristol supports flexible working in a cutting-edge teaching and research environment.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.

Informal enquiries may be made to: Greg Kemble, Faculty Technical Services Manager, greg.kemble@bristol.ac.uk
