The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a global centre for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the 40 best universities in the world – and top 20 public universities. The University opened its Okanagan campus in 2005 as a bold new UBC presence in the interior of British Columbia, designed to deliver on the promise of a research-intensive institution purpose-built for the 21st century.

Over the past thirteen years, UBC’s Okanagan campus has become a distinctive learning and research community. Today, the campus is home to 9,120 undergraduate and graduate students, 575 faculty members, 656 staff, and eight Faculties and Schools. With $20 million in annual research funding, the Okanagan campus is building its research culture and driving economic and social development in the Interior of BC.

Based in Kelowna, and reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor & Principal, the Provost will serve as a key member of the leadership team at the Okanagan campus and as a member of the UBC system executive team with the President and Vice Presidents. The Provost will provide leadership for a diverse group of Faculties, including Engineering, Education, Creative and Critical Studies, Arts & Sciences, Management, Health and Social Development, Graduate Studies, and Medicine. The Provost also provides leadership to several other critical units, including the Library, Centre for Teaching and Learning, Planning and Institutional Research, Enrolment Services and Internationalization.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished academic with leadership experience gained as a Dean, AVP or Vice President at a research-intensive university. The Provost will encourage interdisciplinary approaches, support academic excellence, and promote originality in research, scholarship and teaching. The Provost will build an enhanced student experience and will attract, retain and support innovative and productive faculty members. The Provost will be eligible to be appointed as a full professor at the University of British Columbia.
